Yes to Oakland.
Davis is lovely and hot and closer to Tahoe and Yosemite. If you dig road biking it is the city for you. If you want to study wine UC Davis has a program and a whole building dedicated to it. Other than that it is too burbs for me but I could see why folks dig it.
